I’ve got somethin’ purrrrdy special for you today. It starts with “fall,” ends with “porch,” and is drop-me-dead GOURDgeous.
In case you haven’t heard, it’s officially fall here in Miami. And by fall, I mean 70s to 80s, sunny with scattered showers, and if we’re drinking PSLs, they’re probably iced.
Sooo… maybe not the scarf-wearing, leaf-crunching scenes you see when cruisin’ the gram, but when it comes to decorating, hell, we can make it whatever season we want!
Luckily, that’s exactly what we got to do for one of our fabulous clients. Here’s how it started:
Every Porch Needs Goals
As with all of our projects, defining our client’s goals was stop numero uno. Our client shared that she wanted a few permanent plants and would be happy to see some seasonal touches as well.
We also shared some fall inspo photos with her (we go gaga for inspo), and it was clear she preferred muted colors over bright. Deal and deal. Next stop… shopping!
Fall Porch Essentials
For our client’s permanent installments, we decided to select 3 smaller planters at each column in front of the house. We also knew we’d need a larger tree to help fill the empty right corner and create some visual balance.
Well they look kinda friendly!
And we can’t forget the gourds!
Now these, these have character.
“What the heck is that?” Just you wait, kiddo. Just you wait.
The DPI Team Assembles
And then the team got to work. The ever handy Natalie Grafe was our expert potter, while Johanna Murat styled to her heart’s content.
Love coming to work with these two. Together we made… fall magic!
After: Fall Porch in Miami
Ta-da! Cool, classic, yet effortlessly fall!
On each side of the walkway, we have mums, metal pumpkins, and a fun stack o’ gourds.
Against the pillars, we have our topiary friends, who will be staying through all the seasons, along with the big guy in the back. And, if you look at what’s next to the mailbox, we have… lanterns! Yes, it was a lantern that was riding safely in the backseat. Safety first.
The largest lantern has a battery-operated candle. The middle lantern is filled with goodies (from Pier 1 Imports), and the smallest lantern has some mini pumpkins nestled inside.
The best part about this setup? These lanterns can easily be refilled with Christmas or Hanukkah decor, New Year’s baubles… whatever the next season calls for! Gotta love that versatility, amirite?
On the opposite side we have this cozy setup right near the doorway. More mums, a small lantern, and a few more stacked pumpkins to balance the whole porch’s design.
Let’s look at it again…
Well that’s just darling, dontcha think? Simple. Tasteful. Versatile in other seasons. Warm fuzzies every time you come home… and you know we LURVE warm fuzzies!!
Okay, tell us — how are you going to warm up your own porch for the season? Have you already done it? Are you running to Pier 1 and The Home Depot right this very minute?
