Kelly Wearstler Showroom

high point market 2017 trends

This year I decided to travel all the way to beautiful High Point North Carolina to attend the much-lauded High Pont Market. At High Point, designers and architects, buyers and vendors all collaborate within 11.5 million square feet of showroom real estate to display their wares, rub elbows and eat lots and lots of free food. (and booze!)

Gold. Gold accents everywhere. Yes, folks, the gold glam of the 70's is returning and no, it's not a bad dream. In fact, I believe I am starting to suffer from Stockholm Syndrome as I am starting to fall in love with my gold, decorative captors.

(I totally blame this trend all on Kelly Wearstler).

Dr. Jekyll I presume? No. Hyde....er...hide.  So much furniture upholstered with cowhides and other furry hides.  Cowhide was in sooooo many showrooms.

And this cowhide bench....

I could have included 100 pics of some form of dead animal fur-niture (get it?). You get the gist.

Urchins. As in sea urchins. These pieces inspired by the spiny, underwater creatures were prevalent in many showrooms. Here's the Zanadoo chandelier by Arteriors Home. Also, notice that it's gold.

Bone inlay furniture and decor.

Again. Everywhere. In lamps, trays, furniture and decor.

Globe lighting and funky lighting. Globe chandeliers were well represented at this year's High Point. So much so, that I can certainly envision saying "Oh, globes are so 2017" in a couple of years, Trendy to the max. Also abundant were tons of just unexpected, modern and out-of-the-box designed lighting. Tres trendy!

Glamor! This trend goes hand in hand with all the retro gold. Marble and glass paired with acrylics and (yes!) gold hearken to an age of glitz and glamor. Maybe it's a Fixer Upper, shiplap rebellion but I don't mind it. At all.

High Point was an adventure to be sure. Overwhelming but exciting. Pretty sure I am headed back that way in October.  What do you think about these trends? Leave a comment below.
