Traditional Removal

Saltillo Before

I inherited my house with Saltillo tile. Nice enough in its own right but dated and a genuine, high maintenance, pain in the ... As you might know, Saltillo is a clay tile. It's porous and requires sanding and resealing every few years. This needs to be done correctly by a skilled contractor. If not, every "accident"  by this little guy ...

Naughty Boy, Mango

...ends up staining your nice clay tile foreeevvveerrr. As much as I love Mango (above pictured guilty looking canine) I did not want these loving little reminders of him sealed in my floor for all eternity. Not to mention the kitchen grease, dirt or basically anything capable of staining...and Saltillo is Sooooo 80's! (have I mentioned that?) Plus, who wants to have to go through the hassle of sanding and re-sealing their floor every few years? Not me, certainly! I'm guessing not you either.

So what's a girl to do? What else? Replace the ENTIRE floor. Of course!

Porcelanosa Hampton Brown

Now I just had to choose a replacement flooring.  After much debating, the winner was this beautiful Hampton Brown porcelain tile by Porcelanosa. (Real wood just wasn't an option - see Mango above).

Next, demo time. We pulled up 2000 square feet of existing Saltillo tile. But here is the magical part - we use a contractor that has a system entirely devoted to dust-free tile removal. This is accomplished by using a proprietary HVAC filter-tool system which systematically vacuums up the dust as it gets kicked up by the removal. All the dust gets sucked up into a bag and not into your house. Revolutionary and a life saver!Floor Dust Removal

This is just one bag of floor dust out of 150 that was removed from my house from the floor demo. With conventional floor removal methods, this would have been one of 150 bags of dust that would have ended up all over the inside of my house!  All in the cabinets and air vents. All the nooks and crannies. Everywhere. But it didn't. Instead, it ended up here...

Floor Dust, R.I.P.

And the flooring install went without a hitch....
